Resit Policy for Level two Exam

This year the SBINZ also introduced a new re-sit policy for the Level Two exam. Instead of taking the entire exam again, those who fail just the Analysis or just the Teaching can re-sit these portions. Candidates join the next scheduled exam but only have to attend these sections, and we found that it worked really well at Cardrona last week.

New SBINZ Trainer Rhys Jones

The SBINZ received several emails this year with requests for funding towards exams, so we decided to use some of our Development Fund in this area. Rhys Jones was one such person who applied for some help towards his Trainers Cert workshop, and the committee gave him his workshop for free. Rhys has been an instructor for quite a few years and took his Trainers workshop and exam a few years ago but was unsuccessful at the time.  After taking the workshop again this year Rhys passed his exam last week which was fantastic to see, so congrats to Rhys! And we will be putting more details about funding on the website for next year, so if anyone needs help towards Level Three or Trainers Cert exams then please email us. If the committee sees it as a worthwhile investment then you could be as lucky as Rhys!

A very happy Rhys Jones

Trainers work with Nils Coberger

This week the examining crew took advantage of the great end of season
snow by getting together for one last training camp. The two day camp at
Coronet Peak was run by Nils Coberger who has worked for the last three years with the NZSIA demo team in preparation for inter ski.

This year the ski division was able to offer the examining crew the
opportunity to ski and train with NZ Ski Team Coach Nils throughout the season. Nils’s camps have been very well attended helping us all finish the season on a high and look forward to next year already.

NZ Ski Team Complete Level Two

Ben Griffin,Tim Cafe, Harriet Miller -Brown, Andrew Wylie and Leighton Winsloe all of whom are members of  the NZ Alpine Team are now NZSIA Level 2 Instructors.

Under Scott Dagg’s coaching all worked really hard at their demos teaching and analysis. As well as having alot of fun ripping up the fresh snow at Coronet Peak.

Examiners Stephanie Brown, Scott Dagg and Dave Taylor said was great to watch them  doing their free runs down Exchange at Coronet Peak – there were mostly 10s on the marking sheets.

Team members said that they all felt challenged and enjoyed learning more about how upper level skiing relates to teaching.

NZSIA is proud to have them all as level 2 members of the NZSIA and hope to have more involvemnt in future years.

SBINZ Level One Coronet Peak

The start of August meant the beginning of the SBINZ exam roadshow, with the first stop being at Coronet Peak. We had some fantastic weather and great snow conditions, not to mention the always amazing scenery. The exam was a big success with an almost 100% pass rate. Well done everyone!

Snowboard Course Changes

From the Snowboard Division – the Level Three workshop and the Trainer’s

Cert workshop are now valid for life. This means that if you have already

taken the workshop you won’t need to take the exam within 2 years as in

the past, you can wait as long as you want to.

3 extra snowboard courses just scheduled at Mt Hutt in August – the

Children’s Certification, Crossover Course, and the FREE Professional

Development Clinic for Level Two instructors and above.
