Snowboard Trainer, Rookie Academy at Treble Cone.
Richie began snowboarding at the age of 13. A closed mountain didn’t stop him from having a go at his first shred. Strapping in outside the lodge at Whakapapa in the middle of a snowstorm was his first taste.
While at Canterbury University he structured his lecture time table around powder days at Mt Hutt and the passion grew. Richie graduated with a BSc. Geography and moved to Wanaka to be closer to the snow, lakes and mountains. An array of jobs including commercial jet boat driving, engineering and building fueled his needs to travel, wakeboard, bike and snowboard.
While chasing winters he took the opportunities to gain further qualifications in freestyle, skiing and first aid. Richie gained his Trainers Certification in 2006 and has been examining since 2008. He was once a Rookie trainee and has come a full circle to lead SBINZ training courses for Rookie Academy at Treble Cone and a committee member for SBINZ. Richie has enjoyed seasons in Queenstown, Colorado and California; now choosing to build experience in Switzerland and Europe.
