Chris (aka Scolesy) is a Queenstown local who began his snowsports teaching career as a rookie ski instructor at Whakapapa in 1989.

After learning to snowboard at Turoa staff training in 1991 he travelled to Europe and has taught in Austria and Switzerland. In 1992 he gained his Level Two snowboard qualification in the inaugural exam at Mount Ruapehu (yep, that’s the first EVER snowboard qualification to be issued in NZ).

In 1993 he joined the NZSBA (now SBINZ) as an Examiner and wrote the first formal manual. Chris has trained Instructors at Cardrona and Coronet Peak for many years and now spends his summers in NZ riding his mountain bike.
