Every year the ski and snowboard committees work behind the scenes to continue progressing all NZSIA certifications. In the past year, the Snowboard Committee has been heavily focused on the Level Two Certification.

Following on from the success of splitting the Level Three into Riding and Teaching Modules, SBINZ will now be following suit at Level Two. From the NZ winter 2023 onwards, the new Level Two structure will look like this…

4-day Riding Module

This modules covers all the riding skills required to reach the Level Two instructor standard. Riding components are continually assessed throughout the four days and include:

  • Forwards and switch beginner and intermediate turns
  • Carving and switch carving
  • A number of basic freestyle tasks both in and out of the park
  • Off-piste and a steeps freeride

4-day Teaching Module

This module covers teaching and analysis skills for all intermediate snowboarding environments including carving, off-piste and beginner park features. This includes three assessed components:

  1. Written Analysis Exam
  2. On-snow analysis and Corrective Teaching Exam
  3. Developmental Teaching Exam

The new Level Two Course Outline can be viewed here. Please note that this only comes into effect from June 2023 and all Level Two exams in the Northern Hemisphere during February and March will continue with the previous structure.
