Cross Country Ski Level One Certification

The Cross Country Ski Level One Certification is designed for individuals aiming to begin instructing cross country skiing (classic and skate), whilst also enhancing their personal skiing skills. This course provides foundational teaching techniques and covers the New Zealand progression for first-time cross country skiers.

The Cross Country Ski Level One Certification has a large focus on personal cross country classic and skate skiing development and covers modules in teaching techniques. Teaching techniques include the NZSIA progression for first time cross country skiers including flat, downhill and uphill techniques (or gears) in classic and skate skiing techniques, communication styles, skier analysis, error correction drills, and cross country skiing demonstrations.

Cross Country Ski Level One can fulfil the second discipline requirement for ISIA.

Those holding or sitting the NZQA Te Mahi Ako Snowsports Beginner Instructor (Cross Country skiing)  award may have time cross credited for the workshops. The 3 day exam would remain a requirement.

Assessment Process

Those able to demonstrate an understanding of teaching methodology, teach and demonstrate the learner progression and be comfortable cross country skiing on intermediate terrain maintaining good classic and skate form will achieve the Cross Country Ski Level One Certification.

Instructing ability is assessed through short step by step teaching presentations (Classic and Skate), which include associated error detection and correction. This demonstrates the ability to teach both forms of cross country ski technique.
