After initially giving ski instructing a go before settling into a “real job”, Dougie instead found himself hooked, developing a deep passion for skiing and teaching whilst working between New Zealand and Japan.
Now nine years into the industry and an examiner since 2022, he’s fully committed to the life he once thought was temporary. He now teaches students and trains the next generation of instructors in Wānaka with Rookie Academy and in Niseko, Japan.
Keen to encourage a broad and inclusive approach to the sport, Dougie runs Alpine, Children’s Teaching, and Freeski courses. His time working with people from all over the world has shaped how he teaches: with an emphasis on mutual respect, adaptability and sharing the stoke.
When he’s off the hill, you’ll likely find him playing disc golf or whipping something up in the kitchen!
