Marti is a bit of a demon on teles, but that’s because he’s been doing it since way back in 1992 – not bad for a young fulla! Telemarking first came to Marti’s attention at the infamous Queenstown SkiWhizz nights. He was quickly ripped by how cool (and challenging) it looked, and by the end of the season he had purchased his first set of tele boots and skis.
He knocked off his Stage One (now Level Two) in 1993 and Stage Two (now Level Three) in 1998, then became an Examiner in 2000. Not one for wasting time he went to Interski in 2003 in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, where he really enjoyed the learning and sharing experience.
Marti loves the freedom of movement that is telemarking and the other ‘interesting and varied’ people that free-heel with him. Marti currently divides his winter between ski bumming, a little plumbing, and training the Telemark Instructors of the future who will hopefully go on to become Examiners.
