Kia ora to the NZSIA family,

As many of you will be aware, our Ski Division Manager Stephanie Brown recently announced her retirement after 16 years in the role.

Steph has been an unflappable leader and an inspiration to many as she has steered Ski Division through a time of great change within our organisation as well as within the snow sports industry as a whole. Through the boom of the instructor training programmes, the expansion into international markets and the challenges of managing the staff and division through tough Covid times, Steph has been a steady hand at the wheel. The NZSIA Board and Management team would like to thank her for the huge contribution she has made and we look forward to celebrating Steph at the 2023 AGM.

Over the past six weeks, the employment committee has conducted a robust recruitment process to fill the Ski Division Manager position. The calibre of applicants was very high and a short list of quality candidates underwent a rigorous and transparent selection process. On behalf of the NZSIA Board, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Gavin McAuliffe as the new Ski Division Manager.

Gavin is a NZSIA senior ski examiner and long-term instructor and trainer at Coronet Peak. He has been a Ski Division committee member and NZSIA board member in the past and has represented the Ski Division at Interski. Gavin was also heavily involved in the writing of the last ski manual. No doubt, many of you will already have met Gavin through the course of his work and you will know that his passion for snow sports runs deep. Gavin also brings experience of running his own instructor training business and has valuable experience in the tertiary education sector having previously worked at the Queenstown Resort College.

We look forward to welcoming Gavin to his new role from February 2023

Words from Gavin:

“I’m stoked to be taking on the role of Ski Division Manager. It’s a role that I have aspired to, and doesn’t come available very often.

Following in the footsteps of Stephanie will be a privilege, she has lead from the front and her work ethic and commitment to the role are something I will aim to emulate.

I’m excited about working closely with the examiner crew and can’t wait to get started.”
