Levelling the Slopes: Supporting Women to Reach Level Three and Beyond
Motivated by one of our core values Stoked to Inspire and Grow, NZSIA is proud to continue its support of women in snowsports through the work of our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Task Force.
We’ve noticed a significant drop in female participation between Level two and Level three exams:
- For skiers, representation drops from 36% at Level 2 to 25% at Level 3
- For snowboarders, it drops from 25% to just 12%
Lets change that! Our goal is to strive towards equal representation, foster an environment where more women feel supported, empowered, and encouraged to keep progressing. Whether its toward the Level 3 certification or becoming future NZSIA/SBINZ Trainers.
Introducing the 2025 Level Three Voucher Scheme
To support this mission, we’re excited to announce the Level Three Voucher Scheme for 2025. This initiative offers a limited number of $330 vouchers to help cover the cost of a Level Three Workshop or Exam.
Who’s eligible?
- Female ski or snowboard instructors
- Hold Level Two Certification (NZSIA/SBINZ or equivalent)
- Current NZSIA members
If you’ve already paid for your course and are successful in your application, we can refund the voucher amount based on the course fee already paid.
Apply for a Level 3 Voucher here
More to Come: Women’s Development Initiatives
This voucher scheme is just one part of a broader push to support women in our industry. Here’s what else is coming up:
- Ski & Snowboard Mentor Programme
- Summit Weekend
- Women’s Development Days
We’re committed to building a more inclusive, supportive snowsports culture – one where everyone has the opportunity to grow and thrive.
NEW Telemark eManual is LIVE!!!
We’re excited to announce that the Telemark eManual has gone live! It’s packed with valuable content, great action shots, and more to support our Telemark instructors both now and into the future. It looks amazing!! Big thanks to Francesca Pavillard-Cain for all the work that’s gone into the update and to all those that have gone before her for the foundations that were laid to allow it to be what it is today.
Check it out here: Telemark Interactive eManual
If you’re keen to get involved in Telemark or do an exam, please check out this link for dates and prices of exams this winter. Telemark can also be the 2nd discipline required for your Ski Level Three Certification: https://www.nzsia.org/telemark/calendar/
Lastly, if you’re new to Telemark or want to get into it, then our very own Telemark examiner James Arthurs is happy to be able to answer any questions, help get you set up with gear, and give you tips on how/where to find help to be the free heeler you can be! For James’s contact details, please email nhski@nzsia.org.
